Skyfire "real web" browser gets full S60 launch

S60 isn't exactly short on web browsers, but now the likes of Opera and the S60 browser itself have a new rival in Skyfire. We spotted this in beta form a couple of weeks back, but now it's gone 100 percent official.

Skyfire is different from other S60 browsers in that it delivers a PC-like web-surfing experience with complete, unfettered access to pages. It's compatible with any Internet technology, you see, which means you can view Flash, Java and Silverlight content - which in turn means full use of feature-packed sites like YouTube, BBC iPlayer and Facebook. You can shop on eBay or Amazon too, and use music streaming services like Last.fm and ShoutCast.com.

But surely such a clever, full featured browser app needs a top-of-the-range mobile to run it properly? Not according to the folks at Skyfire: "We are fully committed to user experience and speed. In fact, so much so that we have opened a data centre in the UK to ensure that consumers there have the best Skyfire performance and experience. Prior to launching in the UK, we ensured that Skyfire runs on the most popular Nokia E or Nseries phones."

You can download the browser free of charge at get.skyfire.com.
