Nokia N85 to get BBC iPlayer support

The N96 may be the only Nokia handset that lets you catch up with BBC shows, but it won't be alone for long: the Beeb has said it's adding iPlayer support for the N85 straight away, with "one or two" future devices likely to follow.

Writing on the BBC's Internet Blog, the broadcaster's mobile technology head Jon Billings claims that the N85 iPlayer app will be largely similar to the N96 version but "with a few minor additions". Sadly he doesn't delve into the specifics of these alterations, but presumably we won't have to wait long to find out what they are.

As for the future Nokia devices he mentions, we imagine he's referring to the N97 plus one other. The large touchscreen on the 5800 XpressMusic would be ideal for viewing BBC shows, and given that it has a fast web connection through Wi-Fi and 3G HSDPA, it seems like a good candidate. We'll keep you posted.
