Vodafone's Widget Manager beta now available for Nokia N96, N95 8GB, N78 and 6210

Nokia S60 phones already have Nokia's own Widsets app, but now widget-loving Vodafone customers have yet another way to get those lovable web-connected mini apps running on their Nok - the imaginatively-named Widget Manager!

The service delivers all manner of free widgets, including Live Scores, Weatherbug, Train Times, Currency Converter, RSS Reader and, erm, FHM Hot Babes. BBC News, BBC Sport and Vue Cinema widgets are expected to be available soon, too. All widgets are free to download and use (although you'll have to pay data charges, of course).

While Nokia's Widsets is a closed Java platform, Widget Manager uses Opera, which according to Vodafone makes it "faster and easier to write for" - and developers will get a chance to create their own widgets for it early next year.

N96, N95 8GB, N78 and 6210 users can download the beta service right now from Vodafone Live.

Hi, i’ve borrowed your photo on a post on mobile widgets but linked back to you. Hope that’s alright. Good post, interesting stuff. Feel it’s also important to point out the FHM hot babes. Thanks, Ed
