Vodafone serves up Last.fm app for selected Nokia phones

Yesterday Vodafone launched the beta of its Widget Manager service exclusively on Nokia handsets, and today it's showing Nok-users some more love by introducing a free Last.fm app for the N95, N96, N78 and 6210.

Other handsets will get support in time, but for the moment the app is limited to Nokia phones. Last.fm "scrobbles" whatever music you listen to on your mobile, keeping a record of your listening habits and preferences and recommending new music that it thinks you'll like. You can stream these recommendations direct to your mobile, as well as songs listened to by your Last.fm friends and neighbours.

Having used the Mac version of Last.fm for a few years, I'd say that it's definitely one of the best web 2.0 applications I've used - it's certainly served up lots of new tunes and introduced me to artists I'd never have heard otherwise.

Nokia users have been able to get Last.fm on their phones before, but only via unofficial apps or by using Python, so it's nice to see a proper, official app landing on the big N. You can download it for yourself by pointing your browser here.
