Could Nokia be about to put us out of our misery and launch the Nokia N97 in March? Nokia has been teasing us with the launch date ever since it announced the device at the end of 2008, saying that all will be revealed in the first quarter of this year.
If what we've just seen can be believed, then the most eagerly awaited Nok is about to get an early release for good behaviour
According to a report on Digital Lifestyles, the Nokia N97 will be here and onsale as soon as 31st March. That is according to a holding page on online retailers play.com site.
The site is offering the Nokia N97 Sim Free / Unlocked Mobile Phone (White) for £479.99 and this comes with free delivery. For this price you’ll get the top-of-the-class Nok boasting a 3.5-inch touchscreen (640 x 360 pixels) display, Quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, GPRS and EDGE, HSDPA connectivity, internal GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is also 32GB of memory built-in, a 16MB micro SDHC card thrown in the box and 5-megapixel camera with auto focus along with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash.
Digital Lifestyles states that ‘Nokia Product Managers have been unofficially quoted as saying that an American version will follow not long after the European release.’ Sadly, there is no confirmation of this at this time.
We just put a quick call in to Nokia to see if this is all above board but there is no word that this is official and could well just be a holding date awaiting approval. It seems that Nokia is keeping the date close and is set on teasing us a little longer. However, with even retailers getting ready to sell the N97, we could be seeing it soon enough - time to get saving, NokHeads.

UPDATE: There is still no official word from Nokia, with our contacts staying close lipped. However, since we posted this story yesterday, things have moved a pace, as Play.com has removed both the price and the release date of the Nokia N97. Asking instead that if you're interested that you fill in your email details. Is this a case of wrong date, or the letting the cat out of the bag early. Either way, it all adds to the suspense.
