Nokia 5800 – saving battery life

The Nokia 5800 has been designed as a great little mainstream device and battery life was to the forefront of making this a reality. However, anyone who uses a mobile device on a regular basis will know what it's like to be running low on power when you need it most.

Which is why getting more from your battery is always a great idea. There are plenty of things you can do to make the most of the Nokia 5800 battery, but what are they?

We've been using the Nokia for a couple of weeks and have a few ideas on how to get more from its battery life but the guys over at All About Symbian have been using theirs a good deal longer and have come up with some belting little life-saving tips.

They've got a healthy list of different ways to save battery life but we thought we'd run down our favourites from the list:

Fully charge the phone's battery

This is a quick and easy one but is often over-looked. A full system is more power efficient, so you'll get better all-round performance.

Do NOT switch the phone off!

This one actually makes sense for any computer as it takes far more energy and effort to closedown and boot-up again than it does to sit idle. It's worth bearing in mind, especially if you use it in league with the next step...

Shut down unnecessary apps

Like most operating systems, S60 loads apps into resident memory and leaves them open just in case you need to use them again. Simply sitting idle in memory can sap power, so when you've finished using a program remember to switch it off.

Use Offline Mode

When you don't want to connect to the outside world this is a great idea to put in to practise, as it turns off all radio signals – the OS checks each connection is working every few seconds, even if sitting idle, just to make sure it's ready for action. So, switching them off is a great idea but not always practical.

There are plenty more ways to get more form your Nokia 5800 so we suggest checking them out at the All About Symbian website.

how do u change the message tone on the nokia 5800?

  • Mikey Bee

Kayleigh: To change the message tone go to Messaging > Settings > Personal > Profiles. Then you need to choose Options and then Personalise and you can change anything and everything you like.

Brilliant!, so the advice to users of the Nokia 5800 is switch it to \’offline\’ and then you can save the battery. Er… why do we have a mobile phone? isn\’t so that we can be contacted anytime anywhere. We now have a phone so sophisticated that you can\’t use it without draining the battery. Oh well done Nokia!

If you can’t work out how to change the message tone from either thinking it through on the phone, or Plan B use the manual, you are a moron

I am considering buying this phone so this battery life problem is an issue. This advice makes sense but, can you buy a battery with a higher capacity? Also how much does this advice actually save?

  • http://what? chuckles

    You’re all morons.
