The Nokia 5800 has had a couple of minor updates in recent weeks but the news today is that it’s under gone it’s first major firmware update.
The Nokia 5800 has now received a firmware update to version 20.0.0.12, with much of the update seemingly about updating the multimedia aspects, as well as ironing out a few wrinkles in the rotation software.
The Nokia firmware update version 20.0.0.12 is now ready for download using Nokia’s Software Updater, as well as PC Suite. The update is something of a milestone as it should set many of the minor bugs that people have been reporting in the Nokia 5800 straight.
From what we understand, this is a localised rollout so may not be seen in all territories straight away. All About Symbian has managed to give a quick rundown of what it sees as the major changes:
- geotagging information now available in camera
- general operation seems smoother, screen rotations faster
- playing back videos had less hiccups, especially on YouTube, where Web on the 5800 now becomes almost as good as a dedicated YouTube client
- 'Search' on the standby screen now searches phone content as well as on the Internet
- Assorted small bug fixes
What also makes this out as a major update is that it’s the first firmware jump on the 5800 to be delivered Over The Air (OTA), something which has been expected for a while but has only just now gone operational. The Nokia 5800 works with User Data Preservation but we'd always advise making a full backup of your Nok's data before carrying out any update.
