Nokia App Store to launch

Nokia will use next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to launch its own Nokia Apps Store. At least this is the rumour currently gathering pace, with even the Washington Post reporting on the rumour.

If it’s true then this is fantastic news and surely it will make getting hold of new apps easier and put Nokia in an even more dominant position in the smartphone market? While this is still clearly in the rumour stage, it’s something that would be more than welcome and makes great sense for all Nokia users.

This is the lead story happening in your Nokia community. Other stories making the headlines include the launch of a Nokia Internet Radio Player update, getting to grips with the memory on your Nokia 5800 and we also take a closer look at another finalist of this year’s Nokia Calling All Innovators competition.

Nokia Apps Store to launch

It’s a trend we’ve seen developed by others, Apple has one, Google will eventually get it’s store up and running and even BlackBerry is toying with the idea of an Apps store, so the news that Nokia will launch its own Symbian Series store is fantastic news.

The story was actually raised by Mobile-review.com, a Russian site that apparently seems to be heavil quoted, particularly ‘Nokia is planning to announce its own App Store-alike at this year’s MWC which is now just over a week away.’

Is this mere speculation or is it grounded in fact? Naturally, Nokia is staying silent on the point. After all, we’ve a week to go before their press conference. For our part, this would be great, especially if it brings apps and Comes With Music all under one roof. The question is, how will this be rolled out and what will it look like? Having a central resource for all things Nokia makes great sense, what do you think?

Nokia 5800 – memory card explored

Nice little insight into making the most of your Nokia 5800 and its memory capacity over at All About Symbian. The piece takes a ‘beginners’ look at all things memory, how much the 5800 comes with and how to share data between built-in memory and storage cards. It’s a great example of how to get more from your Nok. Go get the low-down on the Nokia 5800 memory issue.

Calling All Innovators

The final winners of the Calling All Innovators competition will be announced on the 17th of February, as part of Nokia’s involvement with the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. One of the more environmentally friendly apps is GreenDrive. It has been designed to check vehicle fuel efficiency. It does this by checking fuel consumption and providing real-time driving directions for the shortest route in the quickest time legally allowable. Nokia Internet Radio

Nokia has released an updated version of its Internet Radio Player and the NokiaAddict has been busy getting it up and running on a number of devices. It seems to work fine for him on the N95 but for all those big E71 fans out there running Firmware V200 things are looking a little less ideal just now.

Enquiries as to whether Nokia Internet Radio Player is supported in Series 5 devices, that’s the Nokia 5800 an Nokia N97 to you and me, is sadly a no at this stage apparently. See how the NokiaAddict got on with the Nokia Internet Radio Player.
