Nokia 6700 Classic – A new way of thinking?

The Nokia 6700 may have the Classic tag attached to it but is this phone more forward thinking than we may have imagined? After all, as we find ourselves in the middle of a credit crunch, this is clearly the kind of phone we should be thinking about buying. Sure, it’s a Series 40 phone but that doesn’t mean it’s limited in functionality. Join us as we look at the Nokia 6700, the ‘modern’ Classic and ask the question: Is a real smart phone all in the way you think about it? As soon as you look at the Nokia 6700 Classic you know it’s a cool looking phone. That combination of the old and the new and the mix of materials make it an impressive device in its own right. Check out the full tech spec of the Nokia 6700 Classic and you'll see it's no slouch. However, the Nokia 6700 Classic manages to pack a whole host of features in to it that we’re more accustomed to seeing on more high-end Series 60 device. For starters, this is phone supports both HSDPA and HSUPA, so it’ll take advantage of the internet and email at the best possible speeds. The 2.2-inch screen offers a decent size to make the most of the web experience too. What’s more, this Nok is packing some serious navigation tools onboard. You’ll find A-GPS is fitted as standard and with Nokia Maps 3.0 just shipping, it’s easier and quicker than ever to load. These are things that are still seen as 'premium' features for most of the phone industry but Nokia clearly sees this as a key component for any mainstream device. If you want to offload any of that stuff, Bluetooth is fitted, so you can sync it on the fly with your laptop. Like S60 devices, you’ll be able to make the most of Nokia’s Ovi Share and use all the other apps. Then there is the more obvious stuff like MP3 player, FM radio and even a 5-megapixel camera. When you think that even the Nokia 5800 is only sporting a 3.2-megapixel camera, this is a smart move on Nokia’s part. We’re not about to say this is a cutting-edge smartphone and beats the like of the Nokia N97 out of the water. What we’re suggesting is that in times like these, maybe there is a more financially astute way of getting what we want. Of course, all this is speculation at the moment as we’re still waiting to get our hands on a device. However, it’s certainly plenty to think about. After all, this comes in a package that is expected to weigh in at less than £200. So, the question is, is it worth thinking a little differently with the Nokia 6700 Classic and seeing this as you’re smart move?
