The Nokia E75 has officially been announced at Mobile World Congress and the equally impressive Nokia E55 has joined it. Both smartphones are set for release later this year.
The Nokia E75 may have been making all the gossip papers but it’s the Nokia E55 that will clearly be the star of the show, making its first appearance at the congress. Join us as we take our first look at the two new S60 smartphones.
Nokia E75
We’ve seen the silver and black Nokia E75 circulating on the web for the last few weeks but did you know it’ll also come in red and copper yellow, making this the most consumer looking S60 smartphone to-date?
There are some pretty amazing features on the E75, for starters there is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard so handling emails and editing documents via Ovi apps will be easy. What’s more, this S60 smartphone comes packed with A-GPS and maps pre-loaded on the memory card. This is pretty much carrying on Nokia's commitement to make sat-nav standard across all platforms.
We’re fairly familiar with the QWERTY keyboard from the leaked photos but new are the two customisable home screen views, so you can switch between business and home views - and even different email accounts – when the working day is done.
The 111.8 x 50 x 14.4mm phone weighs 139g, and packs a 2.4-inch (320 x 240-pixel) screen. The camera is the same 3.2-megapixel CCD we’ve seen on the Nokia 5800 and even accepts video recording up to VGA quality. There is up to 50MB of internal memory space and will support up to 16GB of external storage using a microSD card.
We'll be bringing you more info on the Nokia E75 later in the day.
Nokia E55
Coming as a complete surprise is the Nokia E55, which at 116 x 49 x 9.9mm and weighing just 98g makes it the smallest Nokia messaging device to-date.
With full support for HSDPA and HSUPA you’ll get download speeds of up to 10.2Mbits. You’ll also find Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built-in for more localised connections.
Rather than being a corporate phone, the Nokia E55 is aimed at the enthusiast market, with its easy-to-manage email setup and a range of features including music and video players, FM radio and even a 3.2-megapixel camera with flash. This wouldn’t be a Nokia smartphone without A-GPS support and Nokia Maps 3.0 coming as standard.
The 2.4-inch screen (320 x 240 pixels) can easily view documents in landscape mode, and gives you full access to Email, Calendar and Contacts. If you want to use it for work, you can switch between business and home modes, as the phone can also handle multiple email accounts.
The Nokia E55 looks like being a cracking additon to the E Series and will be available in black or white with aluminium used as the trim surround.
No news on pricing or when either the Nokia E55 or Nokia E75 will be released but we’re hoping to bring you more details later today.
