The Nokia 5800 is our phone of choice at the moment, that is until we can get our hands on the Nokia N97, and as such we've been keeping an eye on the latest and greatest apps to be released for S60 5th Edition. Until the Ovi Store launches in May, we don't really have one central source we can pull all the free apps together from.

Use MSN Messenger and want to make it the preferred IM client on your 5800? Now you can with this simple and free app. It downloads natively in Chinese but you can easily change the default settings. Once installed it works in exactly the same way as the full-fat version of MSN Messenger, so you need never be away from your buddies. We have to thank Mobile Whack for pointing us in the direction of this one.
Nokia Energy Profiler v1.2
Nokia Users tipped us off to the arrival of Nokia Energy Profiler v1.2, which allows you to monitor the power usage on your Nokia 5800, or any other S60 5th Edition S60 device. It’s primarily intended for apps designers but you’ll be able to see where the power spikes are on your favourite Nok.
Phone Torch for S60
Nokia seemed to abandon an integrated torch feature some device back but if you have a hankering to use your Nokia 5800 as a torch you can now do so courtesy of this little free app. It uses the flash in the Nokia’s built-in camera and comes with a word of warning – this is still under development so could well shorten the life of the flash. So, use with caution and sparingly.
