Nokia E75 or Nokia 5730 XpressMusic – you decide?

After the announcement last week that we'd be getting the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic later this year, we've been thinking. Sure, the Nokia E75 will be here sooner, and judging from the 5730 hands-on we posted earlier, it's looking like it'll be a great device when it finally ships.

Both share a similar design DNA so which one is better? We thought we'd take a look at what may well be the most hotly debated topics of the year – business or pleasure?

Yes, we know the Nokia E75 is being touted as the device to replace the Nokia E71 in some quarters but when you have two devices like the Nokia E75 and the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic that are so similar, you have to wonder which one is right for you, and what does that choice say about you in general?

The Nokia E75 is already up for pre-order so we could well see it in the next couple of months. The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic will be with us Q3, which means we've plenty of time to wait, so most people will plumb for the safe option and go E75. Or will they?

Both the Nokia E75 and Nokia 5730 XpressMusic have a colourful design that comes with a side-sliding keyboard. While the lettering on the E75 is quite conventional, the 5730 has a retro dot-matrix pattern to it.

There has been a good deal of talk on Nok sites about the 5730 simply being a funkier version of the E75 but if you take a look at the spec sheet, you'll see that Nokia is claiming it'll be lighter but slightly bigger but still pack in the same 1000mAh Lithium-ion battery.

Both have a 2.4-inch screen that supports 240 x 320 pixels and up to 16 million colours. The camera is the same 3.2-megapixel with Carl Zeiss optics and 8x digital zoom with flash, once again making it difficult to decide between the two devices.

It's only when you start to look at the data speeds and memory allocations that the devices start to split apart. The Nokia E75 will ship with up to 50MB of internal memory, while the 5730 XpressMusic doubles that with 100MB. Both fit in a microSD slot that will handle up to 16GB with ease. So, on memory allocation, the 5730 has the edge.

However, for most people it will be the speed with which you'll be able to connect with data services. The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic also has support for Comes With Music and N-Gage, so you'll want to make the most of its HSDPA connection.  Don't forget Ovi Store launches in May and you'll want a nippy connection to make the most of everything that will offer.

What do you think? Will you be opting for the Nokia E75 or waiting a little longer for the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic? Then again, is neither your next Nok and you're waiting patiently to get your hands on the Nokia N97? Let us know in the Comments below.

The only thing the E75 is likely to have in its favour over the 5730 is superior build quality. But after a year with such disastrously built handsets as the N85 (with its badly glued, prone to falling-off keypad) and 5800 XpressMusic (with its light leaking gap and flaky earpiece) that’s not something to dismiss lightly.

Let’s face it, despite the extraordinary spec-for-price ratio of the 5370, which seasoned Nokia user is NOT expecting a wobbly slider and light-leaking gaps in the case?
