In recent weeks we’ve tested out a wide range of features on the Nokia 5800, from the device in general, to the touchscreen, hand-writing recogniton, the camera and a wealth of 5800 apps. However, one area it falls down, for now, is when it comes to email and lack of support for Nokia Messaging.

So, when news came down the line that we’d soon be getting Nokia Messaging, it sure put a smile on our faces. Find out more about Nokia Messaging on for the Nokia 5800 after the jump…

The guys over at Symbian Addict have managed to prise an Alpha copy of Nokia Messaging from the developers currently working on for S60 5th edition for devices like the Nokia 5800, so will also support the Nokia N97, and give it a run-through.

Their findings are more than interesting, as are the screenshots, with an overall comment on how easy it is to setup covered by ‘All you need to do is input your email address and password. Nokia Messaging takes care of the rest. It managed to set up my Gmail and Ovi inbox without any problems’.

The report goes on to cover off all the main concerns of any heavy email user, including setup and navigation of the inbox, as well as message composition. It's a great snapshot of what we can expect in the coming weeks. The guys don't report any obvious flaws, so we're assuming the app is robust and solid even at this stage, which bodes well for Nokia Messaging on the Nokia 5800.

By the looks of it, Nokia Messaging also takes full advantage of the touchscreen, as well as offering switching from Landscape to Portrait mode.

The Alphas version isn’t for public use, yet, and is still in development. With no word of a release date we’ll have to stick this on our ‘Most Wanted’ list for now.
