Was it just us, or was one of the weirder Nokia announcements this week was the news that 'Heroes' creator Tim Kring to launch a new project through Nokia's Ovi Store?
It seems he's been enlisted to launch a project code-named TEVA, which promises to be an experimental narrative that involves single and multiple people? Confused, you will be....
Tim Kring is coming to the Ovi Store with a brand new storytelling concept. Speaking on TEVA, Kring said, "The ability to extend storytelling past traditional audiences and reach millions of Nokia consumers through the Ovi Store is very exciting,”
Sure, TV show Heroes is cool and it's certainly brought super-heroes into the prime time but Kring shouldn't be the only one to create a 'multi platform narrative [that] will be an immersive experience with elements of individual action and group participation.' No, we want other top comic book and super-hero writers to get involved and here are our top five projects we'd love to see them work on:
Bad Apple
Watch out when Frank Miller gets involved in any project, as bullets, booze and broads are sure to fly, flow and froth. The man who brought us 300, Sin City and The Dark Knight Returns will be out to right wrongs and should be keen to bring the rotten Apple to its knees in his first project for Nokia. We don't really care what the details are on this story, it's all in the gritty execution as the Big Apple gets what it deserves, a sound thrashing.
iD
Alan Moore, creator of The Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta and From Hell is no stranger to top-draw concepts and is more than willing to embrace new ideas with a novel twist. We want his narrative to be set in a Victorian village that never existed, where slightly jaded but well informed gentle-types will dissect the true nature of Darwinism juxtaposed against Intelligent Design. All the time tracking down a stolen antique crucifix. Alan Moore knows the score, so the whole experience won't be a widget in the true sense but a handwritten app printed on vellum.
The Blank Page
What about Grant Morrison, the man who brought us The Invisibles, Doom Patrol and even The Filth? We want the Duke of Weird to bring the first 'virtual mobius strip narrative' to life. Designed just for Nokia S40 devices, it should involve no words, no pictures and even less narrative. Taking its cues from Eastern philosophy, Black Metallic BeBop and a decoder ring he found in a junk shop, the experience should jump from handset to handset, forcing users to seek out the next installment by making it up themselves before forgetting about it.
Secret Share
Neil Gaiman of The Sandman and Coraline fame won't so much be involved in exploring narrative or form but it would be one of the more ambitious projects on Ovi Store - we want him to literally break down the walls of reality itself. Gaiman should physically find a way to tap into the land of fairy, allowing users of this downloadable open-source widget to speak directly with one of the fay folk and share their secrets. Not to be taken lightly, for every secret you hear you'll have to diluge one of your own...
F.I.S.T.
Finally, we want Mike Mignola to bring his creation Hellboy to life on a Nokia, not so much as a narrative experience, more as an app for anger management. In essence, F.I.S.T. won't be anything more than an app that turns the Nokia 5800 into a giant stone fist that you can pummel demons, evil entities and Nazis to dust with!
There we have it, what do you think, any of them likely to launch alongside TEVA when Ovi Store launches in May?
