Nokia Netbook, a fox or a conn?

We first started musing about a Nokia Netbook earlier in the year and when Nokia Chief Executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo talked netbooks and laptops in February during a TV interview, everyone started to get excited.

It’s been quiet on the rumour front since but now it seems they’re about to start up again, as a rumour that a contract with an OEM is about to be signed for a new Nokia Netbook is on the table, but who could it be with?

Is the Nokia Netbook a reality or just wishful thinking on part of the collective consciousness? Well, if the rumour that’s appeared on TheStreets website is anything to go by, then there may well be a dollop of wish fulfilment going on.

The story puts forward the idea, but with little more than ear-say, that Nokia is about to sign an agreement with Foxconn.

‘Some if not all of the production of the new mini-PCs will be handled by one of Nokia's original device manufacturing partners, Taiwan's Foxconn.’

With the netbook market moving to a 10-inch size, we’d be interested to see what OS Nokia would plumb for if they did go ahead and roll out a netbook. Or would it go for some other open-source OS like Android?

What do you think? Should Nokia get involved in the world of the netbook or is are the latest S60 5th Edition devices, like the upcoming Nokia N97 enough to satisfy the needs of the mobile user?
