We've been more than happy with the touchscreen display on the Nokia 5800 but is it about to undergo something of a change in technology?
At the moment, the Nokia 5800 uses a resistive touchscreen but is Nokia about to switch over to capacitive technology in order to match other devices out there?
We've been using the Nokia 5800 for over three months now, check out our feelings on the 5800, and one of the things we love is the solid touch to the display. Sure, it means you have to be precise with what you're tapping but the solid finish adds to the overall feel of the handset.
A report that's emerged on DigiTimes is that Nokia could well be about to switch this resistive display for a capacitive display as used in rival devices. DigiTimes cites the usual 'Taiwan handset component supplier' as it's source.
At this stage it's just a rumour but the report goes on to say that 2 million of the screens have been ordered and could well start circulating as soon as May or June time, if the reports prove true.
As a final aside, this switch to a capacitive screen means that we may also see slimmer and lighter touchscreen devices later this year – after the launch of the Nokia N97. This once again points to the idea of the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic being launched at Nokia World in September but will it be accompanied by other similar devices?
One things for sure, it looks like Nokia is taking the touchscreen market for its S60 devices seriously, which can only be good news for the whole industry.
If you've not already bought into the idea of the Nokia 5800, does this change in screen technology make it a more likely purchase for you? Let us know in the Comments below...
