Nokia 5800: Firmware updated to V21
By Mike Browne on April 21,

When Nokia announced a firmware update for the Nokia 5800 a couple of weeks back, it turned out to be V20 of updater. However, it seems that the long awaited V21 is now starting to circulate in come parts of the world.

The Nokia 5800 is still very much at the forefront of our minds, it’s the phone we’re using every day so it’s never too far aware. So, whenever an update comes down the line we’re always keen to make sure we have it.

The latest firmware update for the Nokia 5800 has started to circulate with reports coming in TechTree that it has already started to show up in India and Pakistan.

As the guys on TechTree put it: ‘The update comes in the form of V21.0.0.25 that devices with product codes from Asia are receiving.’

We’ve no word on what this update will bring with it other than offering a faster user-interface and a more stable OS. It is expected that we’ll see an improved response time from the camera as well as a slightly more responsive screen.

Check the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) and see if anything has popped up for your phone and let us know what the update brings with it.

Still no update here… In Portugal :(

Well I guess I just have to wait

I\’ve tried both via NSU and OTA (Over-the-air)

Looks like it arrived in the UK, just installed it about 5 minutes ago (via NSU, tried OTA just this morning and no result so use PC). so far the only clear difference is the accelerometer, which is a lot faster to react when I rotate the phone. Though the main problem I have is that the notification light blinks after I put it on lock, yet there\’s no new message or missed call. I don\’t know if this is a feature similar to other phones that blink while on standby but it is a little distracting.

    @Chris

The Notification light you keep seeing is called “Breathing Light”, its a new feature. you can turn it off somewhere in the settings.

No Update for Romanian’s.. we still wait :|

Still waiting for update here in south Africa

  • DIABLO

The flashing light is a new feature to let you know the phone is powered up and working. They have also made that light more useful and customisable for alerting you to mixed texts, calls etc.

hey guys…i am trying to update from version 11 to 21, but its not happening! the customer care told that a direct update from 11 to 21 is not possible…it has to be from 11 to 20 then from 20 to 21! please see if anyone trying to update from 11 to 21 is facing the same problem. my email is varun_42@rediffmail.com. Thanks!!!

hey guys, just got the new firmware V21.0.25… it’s been working pretty good for my phone… it now enables you to take photos with your front camera, it enables geo-tagging of photos and videos, better reaction of the interface and maybe, a lot that I need to find out in the next few days after tinkering with it… go get your firmwares now! enjoy!

just had my phone updated from v11 to v21.0.0.25. first through OTA.

    New:

    1) Clearer photos
    2) Smooth interface
    3) Secondary camera working for taking photos
    4) Faster reaction on touch screen
    5) breathing light for standby mode, blinking light for missed call and new message

    Bugs:

    1) Display suddenly changes to green, yellow, red, pink, purple (my phone turns into a disco light!)
    2) “Music Player” menu now says, “Music Plyr.” How pathetic the shortcut names are!
    3) “Applications” menu now says, “Apps”. Another pathetic shortcut name!
    4) When opening theme, it pops up an error: “Memory full. Please close other applications”.
    5) Display fades to black and then back to default color. Saw a forum from Nokia Europe says it’s a bug on v21.

My v11 worked very fine before. I regret I upgraded my phone to v21. I have gone to Nokia Care and have it reformatted and hard reset. Still, I get those unpleasant bugs. My phone is just 5 months old and I always make sure it never fell or bumped. No scratch on screen since I bought a protective screen film which I ordered online.

Disappointed. I will report this to Nokia Care and demand for a fix. Or let them replace this phone. Shoot! Very frustrating!
