The camera that comes with the Nokia E75 isn’t about chasing the pixel count, as at 3.2-megapixels it’s hardly cutting-edge. However, that doesn’t stop it being an integral part of the Nokia E75’s appeal.

In a lot of respects, the inclusion of a camera on the Nokia E75 is as much about Nokia cramming as much tech inside their phones as it is about being an essential feature. After all, people opting for the Nokia E75 will be coming to it for the QWERTY keyboard rather than as a camera phone. That said, our initial findings proved more than satisfactory, so we’ve been testing out the camera for a few days and have been mildly surprised.
STILLS CAMERA: The 3.2-megapixel CCD allows for images up to 2048 x 1536 pixels in size, which is more than enough for most peoples needs. It comes with Auto-focus and built-in flash that works well up to one metre away. You can load the camera up from the main screen, and you’ll find it quickly loads up. It works in Landscape mode so you get the best possible shape from the 2.4-inch screen, which works as the vewfinder.
Controls are lined up down the right-hand side of the screen and it’s incredibly easy to set up and take snaps. We were less impressed with the hardware zoom buttons, sitting alongside the Camera icon on the ‘top’ of the device. These can be rather slow to respond and while they zoom in/out with little or no jagging, it’s not the best of features.
The viewfinder works well and we found that it tended to offer a slightly truly representation of what would be captured than we found when testing it along the Nokia 5800. This is largely due to the camera being better suited to landscape mode. As you’ll see from our test shots, this allows for a great deal of detail without being too large you won’t be able to send them to friends and family.
Images are saved off in JPEG/EXIF format, so while you’ll see some should you edit them, we were more than happy with the results. Naturally, you can share photos using Share on Ovi, as well as other social media sites.
VIDEO CAMERA: It’s not still images you’ll find the Nokia E75 can handle, as the video mode works smoothly. You can choose this from the menu on the right-hand side of the viewfinder screen.
You can run video in either 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) up to 30 fps, or 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA) up to 30 fps. Don’t forget the Nokia E75 also has a secondary camera that can capture video at 176 x 144 pixels (QCIF) and up to 15 fps. This secondary camera is intended for video conferencing and may well be used by business people a lot more than the camera video camera for this very reason.
We were impressed with our video results, as the camera manages to track reasonably fast moving objects without causing jaggies or distorting the image. While it’s not going to replace a dedicated camcorder, for recording quick clips we found it easy to use with some great results.
