We brought you news a couple of weeks ago that Nokia was set to launch Nokia Messaging 1.1 specifically for the Nokia 5800 and other S60 5th Edition devices. Well, Nokia Beta Labs has finally made the release official, making this the best email client yet for Nokia's first touchscreen device.

Nokia messaging for S60 5th Edition offers full handwriting and touchscreen support for the Nokia 5800 and the soon to be release Nokia N97. It delivers the same array of tools as found in the 3rd Edition version of Nokia Messaging, including Push email delivery, IMAP subfolders and mobilizing up to 10 mailboxes, as well as offing support for  Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! and Gmail.

Some of the highlights specific to the S60 5.0 client:

Even easier program navigation with support for ‘tap & hold’ contextual functionality

The client is completely fingertip-operated, no stylus required

Functions both in landscape and portrait views

Message previews in the inbox view

Displays address book contact photos in messages

It's not all good news, as a post of the Beta Labs Blog points out that users need to follow the installation instructions quite closely. This is because it's still firmly in beta stage so isn't as streamlined as everyone would like. However, you can feed back any comments you have when using the software, as this will help make it a better tool in the future.
