One of the most interesting features to come out of the Nokia Developers Summit in Monaco this week has been the 24-hour Nokia Hackathon, which saw developers from all around the world fighting it out to design a widget for the N97 that would not only win them said device, but would also see the widget added to the front page of the Ovi Store when it launches.
The winners from the 24-hour Nokia Hackathon, where developers were asked to compete in the Nokia N97 Widget Competition have been announced. David Emmanuel Castro Guerrero from Mexico was crowned the champion for his winning application, Rocket. This is a social location widget that locates and shows the three friends closest to you in any given location.
Considering the app was developed in-house and in 24-hours, this is a pretty amazing achievement and not only shows off the guys rather astounding skills but also the flexibility of the S60 OS.
Not only does David Guerrero win himself a Nokia N97 pre-loaded with his widget on the home screen, the application will also be shown off on Ovi Store when it launches in the next couple of weeks. Ovi Store will launch in Australia, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States.
The competition's runners up - Marco Lobb from Italy, who designed the widget, Shoppy, a shopping list application and built on-site by Inova IT from Slovenia and Bruce Hopkins, who designed Travel Planner and built by PavingWays from Germany, will also be featured on the homepage of store.ovi.mobi.
