Maps on Ovi for Mac

Maps on Ovi is a great mapping service that is part of Nokia's Location Based Services (LBS) strategy. Its a desktop app that works with Maps 3.0 on your S60 3rd Edition devices. However, the main application has only been available for use with Windows browser. This has now changed with an update of Maps on Ovi for Mac users. Read on to check out the facts and see what it looks like in action.

Maps on Ovi offers pretty much what you'd want from any route planning or map location service. The maps are delivered by Navteq, one of the best mapping and geo-tracing companies in the world, so you know the maps are as up to date as possible.

The latest update means that Mac users running Safari can now use the service. We checked it our on Firefox on our Mac and sadly that isn't supported. However, getting Maps on Ovi for Mac up and running using Safari is quick and easy.

The service requires a plug-in, the same as it does on Windows, but it's just a 6MB download that unpacks to 13.5MB of hard drive space. We found it installed within seconds and then you're presented with a great

We found it loaded quickly over our wireless LAN connection and with 3D, Satellite as well as Terrain options, you can drill down to whichever level of service you want. There is even a Route Planning option that seems to work really well. Overall, this is an impressive package, and what's more, it's free!
