Dual-core Nokia smartphones being prepped

Is Nokia working on a dual-core Nokia smartphone? It certainly seems like and could well be a reality sooner than we think. Dual-core phones was one of the topics hotly tipped at the recent Nokia Developer's Summit.

Are we about to see Nokia smartphones get a power boost the likes of never seen before, read on to find out for yourself...

The world of mobile computing is well versed in dual-core processors, most laptops are already running them and with Intel launching it's dual-core Atom later this year, even the Nokia Netbook is likely to be powered by one.

However, at the recent Nokia Developer's Summit, David Rivas, vice president in charge of Nokia software platforms, predicted that Symbian will support multi-core processors 'very, very soon'.

OK, so he wasn't shouting specifics and where the chip will be coming from but if the OS is already being prepped to handle dual-core data streams, we could well be about to see Nokia phones leap-frog current limits and satisfy some of the complaints that have been posted about the Nokia N97 processor speed.

You can check out the video over at Nokia Conversations, who have a neat round-up of videos covering a whole host of topics from the summit

the e90 already has a duo-core processor. one handles all telephony and the other everything else.

that is why even with a slower processor that has a slower clock then the e71 etc, that it still runs faster and smoother.
