Comes With Music is Nokia's fantastic all-you-can-eat music service that allows you to download as much music as you like. You can play it on your Nokia phone as well as your laptop. With that in mind, we've decided to see how quickly it would be to build the biggest music collection ever!
When James started looking at building a music collection using Comes With Music he was in the enviable position of not having too much music in the first place. In our house we have as many guitars as we do phones, so it's quite a different proposition. I've just taken a look at my music collection and I make it 14 different artists starting with A, this is before we get to the girlfriend's collection (rubbish, naturally) and the kids (teenage boy and younger girl). So, where to begin is going to be a little tricky.
It's always good to start with the classics, in this case AC/DC. However, it's an early fail as it seems the closest you can get to Angus and Co. is with a few evil tribute acts. Not a good start. A quick look over on iTunes shows nothing too. Seems they've not sold their soul to the online devil after all.
Arcade Fire seem to have fallen out of favour of late but you can get both albums and even Old Flame EP on Comes With Music, so things have started to look up. While we're in an indie mood, we can see there are a few Arctic Monkeys singles but no albums.
Seems I'm on to a hiding for nothing as a trying for At The Drive-In pulls up a compilation. Hopefully, the rest of the family will have better luck. My girlfriend hits her stride right away with Aerosmith. Seems you can get just about everything, so we start with the Greatest Hits (she can always come back for more later on). Second up we have Adam and The Ants – another Greatest Hits in the bank. Seems that if you only want to cover off the hits periods of any artist then this is the place to come.
All American Rejects gets the thumbs-up from the teenage boy of the house, so we bag Move Along from 2005 and the new long player, When The World Comes Down. Finally, it seems that young girls are still obsessed with Abba, it's the knock-on effect from Mama Mia apparently, and with two versions of Abba Gold, as well as six other Greatest Hits packages there is plenty for her to choose from.
So, there we have it. Seems like we're already getting to grips with the back catalogue stuff on Comes With Music and with over 6 million albums to choose from, I'm hoping that my collection will catch up with that of the rest of the family.
