Ovi Store is expected to open its doors later this month, offering us everything our Nokia’s need in one handy little marketplace. Aside from a quick video walkthrough, what the store will look like remains a pretty tight mystery, but we’ve been drawing up our shopping list of what we want from Ovi Store, check it out and see what you think…
There is still no clear idea of how many apps Ovi Store will open with. We posted that it Ovi Store be launched with at least 1000 apps but since then it seems to have steadily increased to 20,000 apps. This is all speculation of course but we’re hoping Ovi Store will have plenty of the following:
Clear Categories
Ovi Store is all about bringing apps together in one place, so we want to be able to navigate Ovi Store and know exactly where we are and, more importantly, where we’re going. Apps shouldn’t have vague descriptions, like Utility, or Mobile Internet, but more specifically tagged – Themes, Email, Twitter, for example.
If you’ve tried finding apps on some other stores, it’s so easy to get categories wrong (yes, we’re looking at you Android Market) then you’ll know that having a clear category system is essential. If Ovi Store is to be a success then people need to feel confident they can go straight to what they’re after.
File Instructions
We want clear and precise size and install instructions. As well as an overview of the apps on offer, we want to know the size of the file about to be downloaded. This isn’t such an issue when you’re downloading to a desktop but it’s particularly relevant when you’re out and about and downloading straight to your handset.
Clear Pricing
Sure, we know Ovi Store is there to make money for Nokia and the developers but we want a clear pricing policy. Trial versions need to be flagged up as such, so we’re not downloading apps only to find them time locked. A clear price structure is key to gaining customer trust and getting them to return time and time again to use the store.
Freeware
The most common problem people face and the reason why Ovi Store is such a great idea is that it creates one place for people to get all the apps they need. However, we don’t just want paid-for apps, we want to see plenty of freeware on there too. Nokia has assured us there will be software across the board but hopefully, the freeware will have as much weight as the paid-for and sponsored tools?
App Ratings and User Feedback
We want Ovi Store to allow us to feedback on whether we like apps or not. So, user App Ratings and the ability to feedback on our experiences should be essential. The knock-on effect of this can be used to rank apps by popularity, so charts reflect user experience and not just number of downloads.
How is that for starters? Have we missed anything? Feel you have anything to add, let us know in the Comments below.
