If you own a Nokia N-Gage phone and regularly buy games, then you'll know that the license you buy is tied to that one phone. This makes upgrading something of an issue.
Well, this looks like it's about to change, as N-Gage is investigating ways to get around this system, making all your N-Gage games portable. Check out what's instore after the jump...
At the moment, if you buy an N-Gage game, the license is locked to that phone. This is because it uses something called IMEI to tie it to the device. The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is an individual number assigned to each phone, so if you want to upgrade your phone, it means that theoretically you can't take your N-Gage games with you.
It would make more sense if the N-Gage account was actually assigned to the 'Registered' account holder and not the device. This would limit potential piracy and also offer a great deal more freedom. This was a suggestion that was put forward on the N-Gage Blog User-Voice forum and it's one that makes a great deal of sense.
And you know what, it seems N-Gage has listened to user feedback and is working on a way to switch the license to the account holder instead of the actual device. There isn't a solution ready to roll and there are no details whether we'll see it this year but the news bodes well for N-Gage users.
