We know the Nokia N97 is going to be the big smartphone for 2009, but there are an increasing number of pretenders to the throne. The latest is the HTC Touch Diamond 2, which is a 3.2-inch touchscreen Windows Mobile. Check out how they stack up against each other after the jump…

The Nokia N97 is the new flagship smartphone and is one of the most eagerly awaited devices of the year. The HTC Touch Diamond 2 in comparison is expected to be the big Windows Mobile device for this year.

Sure, they offer different operating systems but in many respects they offer the same functions just handled in different ways. The Nokia N97 clearly has the edge, as the innovative design and 3.5-inch touchscreen

The S60 Blog has put together a side-by-side breakdown of both devices that gives you a nice comparison of what you can expect from both devices. It completes nicely our own full tech spec of the Nokia N97.

The guide gives you a breakdown of everything you need to know about both phones from a tech perspective but doesn’t actually give a hands-on test of either device. So, you can check out everything from weight and dimensions, to memory, widgets, Bluetooth and even Wi-Fi.

You can check out our hands-on test of the Nokia N97

It’s worth pointing out that pricing for both phones – 550 Euros for the Nokia N97 and 450 Euros for the HTC Diamond Touch 2 are just guide prices, as these are dependent on territories and tariffs.

It’s a simple and neat round-up and worth checking out.

That is a ridiculous comparison. Comparing the n97 and the HTC Touch Pro 2 is probably more appropriate. The build quality on the HTC’s seem superior. I was waiting for a n97 but the lag from announcement to release is just insane and stupid. it has built up interest.. it has caused me to lose all interest.

I have heard so much good press about the Nokia N97 this year and actually got mine on pre-order from MobilePhonesDirect.co.uk/N97. It seems that they get it a few weeks earlier than a lot of other sites.
