If you think of Best Screen Snap as the equivalent of a Print Screen button, then it’s great for us application reviewers but it’s also an invaluable one-touch cut-and-paste function. Want to send a name and phone number via email? Just take a snap of your contact page and beam it over. Similarly, it’s perfect for sharing or storing a webpage with directions or movie times.
Best Screen Snap is a small, simple (and free) install that lets you choose the type of image file and quality to capture. Even a top quality JPEG is a small file, ranging from about 20KB for a menu screen to under 60KB for a Google Map with satellite imagery.
You then select where images are automatically stored and what they’re called, or choose Send to get an instant dialogue box with options to send them via MMS, Bluetooth or email, post to the web or create a blog entry. Unfortunately, Best Screen Snap won’t save and send an image simultaneously – you have to choose one or the other.
The actual ‘print screen’ button can be customised. This is the only tricky part – finding a hotkey on your handset that isn’t already used for something else, although you can choose combination key presses. When leaving Best Screen Snap, make sure you only Hide the application, not quit it. Annoyingly, it doesn’t always ‘hide’ completely, sometimes showing up as an ghostly background in other applications. When you hit the hotkey in an app, you hear the camera shutter sound, although this is sometimes delayed in intensive apps like N-Gage.
Best Screen Snap isn’t really the best screen grab app you can imagine, but it’s certainly the best one that’s free and easy to use and available now. An essential utility.
