Thinking of getting a Comes With Music subscription? Getting a Comes With Music subscription gives you unlimited access to one of the world’s largest music resources online.Comes With Music is Nokia's all-you-can-eat music download service and with well over 6 million tracks to choose from, it's proving more than popular in our house. We've been looking at exactly what the service offers over the last few weeks. This has involved a Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, a one year subscription and a laptop to download as much content on to as possible.
Once you’ve got a Comes With Music phone, you can share music between the phone and your PC. Even if you decide not to renew your subscription after a year, you still get to keep the music, so it’s a pretty solid deal. We’re in the process of building a music library and so far have download well over 170 albums and we're only at H.
Perhaps the biggest movie phenomenon of the last few years has been the return of the 'musical' and none come any bigger at the moment than the High School Musical franchise. This is part of the Disney Channel and the girl of the house is very much the target demographic. Fortunately, she thinks the slightly over-tanned appeal of Zack Efron is over-rated as its the songs she likes, making them a perfect choice for Nokia's Comes With Music.
Sadly, Comes With Music seems to have tried to play clever with HSM, as they've broken the tracks down by 'star' so getting hold of a full album is more complicated than we'd like. It also makes a mess of your music library, scattering songs all over the place.
The teenage boy of the house seems to be the one person in the house who has taken Comes With Music to heart, downloading more music than anyone else. Surely, this is the beauty of the service, as kids can quickly get a large collection of music?
First up for H is Hollywood Undead, who are a new band so only have one album out – Swan Songs, which just happens to be on Comes With Music. These guys wears masks and baseball caps but still seems to have pretty good hair!
Talking of bands built on hair, HIM fell into this category a couple of years back but has since tried to be taken 'seriously'. We're all surprised to see they've had so many albums, so along with nabbing Uneasy Listening Vol 1, the boy gets a hold of Uneasy Listening Vol 2 and Venus Doom.
The Hold Steady are one of those bands who seem to be building a stronger following with each passing album, culminating in their biggest headline show to-date just before Christmas at the London Roundhouse (yes, we were there!) They've just released a live DVD, A Positive Rage, and the album is already there and waiting on Comes With Music. We also bagged the entire back catalogue of four studio albums, so a pretty good haul overall.
The Hives are one of those bands that smashed on to the screen with their 'Your Favourite New Band' album and which seemed to be cherry picked at random for every TV show under the sun. Subsequent albums may not have done so well, particularly Tyrannosaurus Hives, but last years The Black & White album was something of a return to form. All these albums, as well as a couple of early ones, Veni, Vidi, Vicious and Barely Legal, are up for grabs on Comes With Music.
So, we grab them and move on to our final choice, Hefner. Named after the millionaire Playboy tycoon but a million miles away in attitude and style is the now defunct East London band of the same name. Now, we've had a it of a Darren Hayman (Hefner's singer) phase at the moment, largely as Pram Town his new album is a cracker!
Back to Hefner and there is something of a mixed bag on Comes With Music. While you can get their first album, Breaking God's Heart, the rest of the back catalogue is missing. However, there are a few best of and B-side options to choose from, including the amazing Boxing Hefner, which has been compared to The Smiths Hat Full of Hollow in terms of quality!
RANDOM ALBUM: The beauty of Comes With Music is that you can experiment with new types of music, which is something we're keen to try. Easy Listening seems to be coming back into fashion and with my mother is coming to visit soon it makes sense we get something for her. S, there is only only natural choice – the Dinck - Englebert Humperdinck to the rest of us. Playing it safe we go for Englebert at His Very Best, which includes all the classics, including There's a Kind of Hush, Please Release me and Last Waltz – the horror!
