Fancy watching a bit of pre-recorded video on your Nokia N97? Well, the BBC seems to be on the case and just as in the same way you can make the most of BBC iPlayer on your Nokia 5800, you can do the same on the Nokia N97. Check out how we got on with BC iPlayer on the Nokia N97...

Even the BBC is getting excited about the launch of the Nokia N97! We were just contemplating whether it was possible to watch BBC iPlayer on your Nokia N97 in exactly the same way as on the Nokia 5800 when what should pop up from the All About Symbian guys, but the same idea!

The Nokia N97 as the same S60 5th Edition software as the Nokia 5800, which got us thinking that we could watch a bit of streaming video on the slightly larger 3.5-inch screen. Sure enough, the same widget you download and install on the Nokia 5800 works on the Nokia N97.

Once you've download the widget you'll be able to get instant access to the last seven days of TV highlights. As you can see from the image gallery below, the video runs using RealPlayer but makes full use of the screen.

We've tested it out running over Wi-Fi and the connection was quick and ran well. There seems to be a slight stretch effect going on to accommodate the larger screen and we found a degree of buffering going on. It's well worth checking out once you've got your hands on a Nokia N97, which goes onsale next week (as if you needed reminding!)

Why on earth doesn’t the n97 app let you watch live tv when the n 95 app does!

Have upgraded in the last 7 days to N97 from N95 gb. I have Iplayer on both phones which runs well om wifi. but will not run on 3.5g!!
Worst of all. Where is the option to download from iplayer??
After all you dont always want to watch streamed programming; you amy want to download and watch later. Come on BBC or Nokia. Sort this out…..

N97 by the way is a very capable piece of kit.

yeh i have a problem that even when im running via WIFI.. it says i need a wifi connection…

I tried the iPlayer out and found much of the same frustrations as you have, the quality of the video you are provided with is somewhat poor I thought. To give the BBC credit though, the iPlayer simply would have never been possible without DRM and they have to be creditied with at very least making an attempt to making all their content available online and some people will no doubt find this service useful once they have managed to set it up.
