Nokia 5800 Comes With Music review

The Nokia 5800 was launched back in January and we reviewed that smartphone back then. However, we've just got our hands on a new Nokia 5800 Comes With Music handset running on Orange and thought it time to give it a review. Check out our Nokia 5800 Comes With Music on Orange review after the jump...

The Nokia 5800 is a great device that we've been using as our primary phone for the last six months. The arrival of  the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music on Orange gave us a chance to try out the same phone but with new functionality.

Comes With Music, Nokia's all-you-can-download subscription music service, is a natural fit for the Nokia 5800 and many people have wondered why it has taken so long to arrive.

So, how does the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music on Orange differ from the original Nokia 5800? Naturally, the styling is exactly the same but for the addition of the Orange logo to the back of the phone. The version we've been sent is a black with silver trim with a similar colour scheme to the Homescreen.

As you would expect, this latest addition to the range comes pre-loaded with the latest V21.0.0.25 firmware, so it's as solid and reliable a device as you'd expect. You'll need to install the Nokia Ovi Suite, of which Nokia Music is a part, onto your PC or laptop. The Nokia 5800 Comes With Music handset and this PC are the two devices you can use the download music on, as the service is tied in with DRM (Digital Rights Managed).

We must say, Orange has done a great job of making the installation as easy as possible, numbering each component and generally helping you through it. We did have a little problem getting the software to install but a quick reboot and it installed through Ovi Suite without any further problems.

Once the software is installed you need to enter the Comes With Music PIN number that comes with the phone and you can access music over the phone or your laptop. The most obvious way to get music is via the laptop then use the USB cable to move large amounts over to the Nokia 5800.

However, we found our Orange connection was quick, so getting access to the Nokia Music Store is easy and the Nokia 5800 touchscreen makes it easy to scroll around and find what you're after. In reality, you won't want to download full albums over the air but for singles and the odd track, the 'must have now' then it's a great way to get music. If you decide to download straight to your phone, then you always have the option to move it to your laptop later.

The Nokia 5800 Comes With Music Edition is available on five different 24 month price plans from Orange, with prices starting at just £25 a month. A normal Comes With Music subscription lasts just 12 months but with the Nokia 5800 on Orange it lasts the full two years. You can choose to renew this subscription at this point. Whether you choose to or not, the music you've downloaded is yours to keep.

So, is the Nokia 5800 Comes With Music on Orange worth checking out? The answer is a definite yes! We've always liked the Nokia 5800 and being able to use Comes With Music makes perfect sense.

Interesting, we didn’t get that Orange logo on the back of our 5800s. I did a video review on the ‘Comes with Music’ service a few weeks ago. Maybe it will help a few readers.
