Nokia Photo Browser review

Nokia Beta Labs launched the latest edition of Nokia Photo Browser earlier this week and with it comes a great deal more usability. It’s been designed to make the most of the touchscreen found on the Nokia 5800, as well as the new flagship Nokia N97, so we thought it time to give it a review. Check out how we got on with our Nokia Photo Browser review….

Nokia Photo Browser is a novel way to view the photos on your Nokia 5800 or Nokia N97. It also works with S60 3rd Edition phones but Beta Labs has suggested that it works best with touchscreen devices and that future updates will be focussed on this area.

It’s a quick and easy install and when you fire up Nokia Photo Browser you’ll find the images on your device float up in a neat gallery or showcase.

Scrolling around the screen allows you to move around the browser and we found this scrolling quick and the action smooth. Double tapping on any image in the gallery view will have it loading up to fill the screen. You need to allow the image a few seconds to fully load, as it will appear grainy until it does so. This shows that Nokia Photo Browser is still very much in beta stage.

Double tap the loaded image and the entire image goes in to zoom-in mode, which you can move around with ease. We found you need to allow the app a few seconds to re-focus but once it’s sharp scrolling around is easy.

A long press on the image will pull up the magnifier, which is a neat and unique way to check out the details of the photo. The beauty of this feature is that it works seamlessly with the touchscreen, as moving your fingertip around the screen moves the magnifier smoothly around.

Nokia Photo Browser isn’t about to replace more serious image cataloguing tools but for a neat way to check out images you’ve just taken, we like it a lot.
