Nokia 6700 classic officially on sale

The Nokia N97 wasn't the only Nokia smartphone to go on sale at the Nokia Store this morning. The Nokia 6700 classic is something a little different - a Symbian S40 phone that packs in all the features and functions better associated with high-end devices like the Nokia N97. We checked it out in-store, see how we got on with the Nokia 6700 classic...

We're hoping to get our hands on a Nokia 6700 classic in the next couple of weeks. It packs in a 5-Megapixel camera, GPS and everything else we expect from a high-end smartphone but in fact its running the humble S40 operating system.

This trickle down effect of introducing top-tech in your high-end devices and then moving it down to more mainstream devices is a fantastic idea and means even at the more mid-range point - the Nokia 6700 classic costs £269 (inc. VAT) SIM free for instance, it means you don't have to skimp on features.

The Nokia 6700 has a classy aluminium casing and a 2.2-inch screen and weighs a mere 116g. With 150MB of internal memory and space for up to 8GB microSD card, it's a great phone that feels fantastic in the hand. We're keen to try out this phone more long term to see how this idea of the trickle down effect works in practise.

Just seen the chrome silver one, absolutely beautiful handset. Feel like one of the Nokia 8800 series range. As soon as anyone holds one, they realise it’s premium. Everyone comments on the weight. The chrome is very nice, but very “finger-printy”.
