The Nokia 6700 Classic is a Symbian S40 phone so is intended for the mass phone market rather than high-end smartphone users. However, the 6700 packs in many of the features we’ve come to expect from more tech heavy devices, so we’ve been putting it through its paces. See how we got on with our Nokia 6700 Classic review…
The Nokia 6700 Classic is a great looking phone and while our First Impressions implied we’d have a problem with the shininess of the Chrome finish, over the last couple of days we’ve found ourselves wiping it down less.
It has a standard candybar design with a 2.2-inch screen, which supports a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. The screen sits above a standard four-button navigation system and function key. We’ve found it incredibly easy to use this phone. That said, the chrome ring around the function key is rather high for such a small button.
Beneath this is a stainless steel finished numberpad with backlit keys. The lettering is rather small and due to the font used, you won't see a lot of light through the keys in normal use. We found you had to angle the phone to really read them in darker conditions.

Weighing 116g this is a solid phone that feels incredibly sturdy in the hand. It’s a deceptively heavy phone as the 110 x 45 x 11mm dimensions make it an incredibly slim device that slips into the pocket easily. It uses the small DC charger plug and also comes with a micro USB port for syncing and charging with your laptop.
So far, we’ve found the S40 OS really easy to use. The Homescreen has the main apps running along the top of the screen, with three slots below for more personalised content. Loading apps has proven quick and actually moving about the Nokia 6700 Classic has been easy.
Key features that help it to stand out are the inclusion of A-GPS with Nokia Maps and a 5-Megapixel camera with full video support. We’ll be testing those features out in a separate review but for now, we’re more than happy with the test images we’ve taken. The Nokia 6700 Classic comes with 150MB of memory, most of that seems reserved for the OS at this point. It ships with a 1GB microSD card but can support up to 8GB with ease.
The Nokia 6700 Classic is shaping up to be a great device. It’s easy to use and we’ve found the main features more than satisfactory. Whether there is enough here to make you want to switch from a high-end device it’s hard to say but anyone looking for to get to grips with the latest high-end Nokia features but still use a mainstream OS, will adore the Nokia 6700 Classic.
