We seem to have seen a steady increase in the number of Poker games being released of late, with Cafe Hold 'Em Poker being the most recent. However, Million Dollar Poker featuring 'Gus Hansen' is one of the better ones to make an appearance. See how we got on with a clean desk as we put Million Dollar Poker to the test...
If you know Poker, then you'll know that Gus Hansen is a star of the professional Poker circuit, which pretty much tells you all you need to know about Million Dollar Poker, as it's not aimed at novices.
Million Dollar Poker featuring 'Gus Hansen' for N-Gage boasts close to 1000 variants of player, so in theory you'll never get whupped by the same opponent twice.
Sure, there is a Help section, and even a bunch of tips from Gus himself on how to be a 'real' Poker player. However, advise is light and game skills are kind of taken for granted. If you like Poker then you'll love this approach as the game immediately cuts to the action.
There are two modes of play, Career and Heads Up. Career is the standard Tournament mode and pits you against an ever increasing array of tough opposition. The view is the standard full-table perspective with your hand closest to you.
You control all the betting actions using your Nokia's D-pad and we found the action quick, so you'll need sharp wits about you to make the most of this game.
To progress you'll need to win each tournament, which is fairly obvious, but actually winning even the first hand is a steep learning curve. The whole feeling of this game is that, if you love Poker, you'll love it, if you're simply curious then you'll soon be run out of town, broke and swearing never to play again!
Verdict
Million Dollar Poker featuring 'Gus Hansen' may have Help files to give you a fighting chance of getting to grips with this game but we still think it's one for the experienced Poker player. In fact, we'd suggest cutting your teeth on lesser games before coming to this one, as it's fast, furious and a sure fire way to get into trouble (in a good way) very easily indeed.
