It's been a tough week for The News of The World, as reports of more celebrities looking into taking legal action over possible claims of having their phones 'hacked' have emerged. In an interesting piece in The Guardian, it's pointed out that the encryption on the phones in question wasn't 'hacked' merely the 4-pin security code breached (or not even possibly present).

This got us thinking whether there were was anything that could be done to help secure your Nokia phone? Check out our guide to the Top Tips to keeping your Nokia safe....

Top Tip 1:

Every mobile phone has a PIN-code for the SIM card, which is generally set as a default code.  Changing the default PIN-code means  none of your details can be accessed even if your mobile is stolen. This may be obvious, but as Charles Arthur points out on the Guardian Online, most people don't bother to change the default 4-pin setting on their phone. So this should be the first port of call for any new Nokia Using simple locks and PIN-codes are your first line of defence.

Top Tip 2:

If you're worried this isn't going far enough, then an extreme but foolproof way of protecting your mobile phone is to set the device to wipe everything on it after a certain number of failed attempts to enter the PIN-code.

Top Tip 3:

If the data – pictures, videos and messages on your phone are private and you don't want other to see them, then it's up to you to manage them carefully. We suggest never keeping them on your phone for too long.  Download any personal videos or photographs to your PC regularly and save them safely there.

Top Tip 4:

If you're thinking of upgrading to a new Nokia, and who wouldn't with the recent launches of the Nokia N86 8MP, Nokia N97 and Nokia 6700 Classic to choose from. So, when upgrading, don’t forget to delete all files when handing your device over after an upgrade, buying a new handset or recycling your Nokia smartphone.

Top Tip 5:

Whether it's your login for Facebook, your bank or even for eBay, don't save your login details to the phone memory. Sure, it's safe in there but what happens if you lose your phone and you've not logged out? Always, always, always log out of any social networking site, or financial site as soon as you've finished using it.
