It seems some details about the next firmware update for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic have slipped out, and if they're accurate, owners of the media-mad touchscreen phone are in for a bit of a treat. Among the items on the agenda are kinetic scrolling and better camera performance.
It seems the 5800 XpressMusic will be getting an improved homescreen, plus kinetic scrolling - think the wheelspin-like scrolling available on the N97 and Apple iPhone, where you can quickly zip up and down a list by sweeping your finger across the touchscreen. Inertia keeps the list scrolling even when you aren't touching it.
Other enhancements are faster response time, improvements to the camera and less frequent crashes.
The news comes courtesy of a Daily Mobile forum member (and 5800 XpressMusic user) from Malaysia, who took part in a focus group session about the upcoming firmware with Nokia Malaysia.
If you can't wait for the firmware update - and nobody knows quite when it'll turn up yet - it is already possible to add kinetic scrolling to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic by installing the Gravity Twitter app.
