With more people than ever using their mobile phones to surf the Internet, we thought you might be interested in the results of a browser speed test performed by the good folks at All About Symbian. The test first pitted five Nokia smartphones - the N95 8GB, N97, N86 8MP, E71 and E75 - against each other, then trialled three Nokia phones against the iPhone 3G and T-Mobile G1. The results are interesting.
In the first test, the N86 8MP was the fastest device when it came to loading up web pages - roughly twice as fast as the E71 and E75 and three times as fast as the N95 8GB. The N97 came a close second. It was also apparent that mobile-tailored websites, such as bbc.mobi, loaded up at a pretty similar speed on all five handsets.
The second test showed that, in general, the Nokia handsets running version 7.1 of the S60 browser were faster than the iPhone 3G and T-Mobile G1. The Nokia models here were the N86, N97 and 5800 XpressMusic. The latter was a speedy performer, just edging the N97.
Lastly, All About Symbian tested three different browsers, all on the N86 8MP: the S60 browser; Skyfire; and Opera Mini. Opera Mini was the fastest choice, but the tester noted that Skyfire (which came second) should deliver a more fully featured web experience - dealing better with video and dynamic websites, in other words.
If you're at all partial to web browsing on your Nokia handset it's well worth scooting over to the test to give it a full read-through. It's thorough, and an interesting read.
