Nokia Music 1.3 update is here!

Nokia MusicOver on the official Ovi blog, Nokia has announced the release of Nokia Music 1.3, an updated version of the firm's desktop music software. The update doesn't make any sweeping changes - although the mention of "a couple of important releases [Nokia has] planned for the end of this year" suggests something a little more significant is in the works. Read on for all the details.

Nokia Music 1.3 now allows "connection mode switching", a pretty self-explanatory new feature that allows you to swap connection modes after plugging their music device into their computer. The idea is, if they make a mistake and select the wrong mode while the application is open, they can switch without having to touch the device.

The album artwork display performance has been improved too, with album covers popping up much more quickly than in previous versions.

You can see the full list of changes (it's not very long) over at the Ovi blog. Interestingly, the post signs off with "We hope to make some announcements soon about our future direction", which we think hints that Nokia has some big plans in the works for Nokia Music. We'll keep you in the loop.

Sounds good, but I’m afraid to install new Nokia software since it began to suffer bloat, and became a constant drain on system resources. Having services running constantly in the background for a handset that’s plugged in for a few minutes a day at most is ridiculous, for example, and I suspect the new “connection mode switching” relies exactly upon that kind of resource hogging integration.

I am very disappointed with Nokia Music in any incarnation. This is because
    1) They are unable to create a 64bit version. It goes to all the trouble using my bandwidth of downloading it with the update application and then fails to install.
    2) The m4a encoding quality when ripping CDs is rubbish compared with the Nero AAC encoder.
    3) When I rip a CD using the Nero AAC encoder tagger the meta data is not imported into Nokia Music.
When I have imported the files into Nokia Music, if I try to edit the metadata the files become corrupted. and will not play at all. Fortunately I can copy the files encoded by the Nero encoder directly onto the phone.
    4) It is very basic.
