We’ve been looking at carry cases for the Nokia N97 of late when the guys over at Mobile Fun sent along the ToughGuard Shell for us to check out. At less than £10 (inc. VAT), this is a cheap solution for anyone looking to protect his or her investment. What’s more, we were instantly impressed with the build quality and level of protection it offers.
The tough plastic shell comes in two pieces with both being made from tough polycarbonate. There is one half for the screen, while a slightly larger shell is supplied for the bottom of the handset. The top section has tiny clips that hold it in place, while the bottom half tightly slots into the shell. They both fit so snuggly around Nokia N97 that you’ll find it tricky to get them off again.
What we like about the ToughGuard Shell is how it adds to the overall protection of the Nokia N97, without impacting on size or usability. OK, so there is no screen protection but this is something we can live without.
The simplicity of this two-part solution is that it allows you to open and use the QWERTY keyboard without the case getting in the way. You'll find there is a really smooth the finish with the ToughGuard Shell and hardly adds to the bulk of the device at all. You’ll also find all the ports are still easily accessible, with even the camera cover on the back still being easy to use. There is even a slight ridge around this opening to further protect the lens cover.
It’s a neat solution and one we really like. In fact, the TouchGuard Shell has become a new favourite method of protection for the Nokia N97.
