The Nokia 'Rover' N900, also known as the Nokia RX-51, has made it's first public appearance by appearing on the FCC website. The Rover is the upcoming Maemo 5 smartphone and there are even a heap of specs to go with the pictures of the device. Join us after the jump to find out more about the Nokia 'Rover' N900...
If you want to launch any device into the US you need to prove it meets regulations, which is why the FFC (Federal Communications Commission) website is a great place to hang out. Over the weekend, the Nokia 'Rover' N900, or Nokia RX-51 popped up.
The Nokia 'Rover' N900 is the upcoming smartphone from Nokia and will be running the Maemo 5 operating system, which first popped up earlier this year. As you can see from the images, we're going to get a device that takes the same 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen used on the Nokia N97 but manages to pack in a 800 x 480-pixel resolution. However, the keyboard follows the styling of the recently leaked Nokia N97 Mini, which means its lost the D-pad in favour of making better use of the keys.
As we can see from the photos below (thanks to BGR), the camera cover is side-loading and looks a lot larger than on the Nokia N97. Also, you won't find the same hinge for the keyboard, as we were expecting. Instead, the RX-51 looks very much like a slider.
When it comes to power, we'll find the ARM cortex A8 running at 600MHz and up to a reported 1GHz chugging away, so putting it ahead of the likes of the Apple iPhone 3Gs and even the Palm Pre. Connectivity is also very much what we expect from a high-end device packing in quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA 900/1700/2100, Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth with A2DP
There are also a reported 32GB of internal memory and the 5-Megapixel camera comes with Carl Zeiss optics with dual-LED flash, auto-focus and sliding cover.
There is no word at present as to when this device will be shipping but we can expect there will be some major announcements at the Nokia World 2009 congress in September. So, is Nokia World 2009 looking like being one of the hottest events this year? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.
