Nokia and Microsoft have long been adversaries in the mobile computing space but it looks like the two rivals may well be about to announce an agreement that will put Microsoft Office on to a range of high-end Nokia smartphones. Find out more about Nokia putting MS Office on its phones after the jump...

Nokia and Microsoft could well be about to work together to bring the MS Office suite of applications to a Nokia smartphone near you. At least, this is what The New York Times is running with, citing 'a person with knowledge of the agreement' as their source.

Office is by far a more lucrative part of the Microsoft Empire than Windows Mobile so leveraging the business onto other platforms makes commercial sense.

What's more, Microsoft hasn't had a great deal of success getting its Windows Mobile platform accepted by the wider public. However, Office is the number one works suite, so it makes logical sense. As the report over on The New York Times points out, 'Microsoft’s lucrative Office line faces an emerging competitive threat from free Web-based word processing, spreadsheet and other software, especially from Google.'

Nokia and Microsoft have confirmed nothing yet. However, Nokia and Microsoft will be holding a conference later to day to announce what they intend to work on together with MS Office on Nokia phones being the most logical step.
