N-Gage is Nokia's gaming platform of choice and over the last few weeks there have been a few updates, with N-Gage  even making its appearance on the Nokia N97. N-Gage has been going through something of a revamp of late so it came as little surprise to find that the Symbian Guru has posted that N-Gage for 3rd Edition smartphones has been updated to version number 1.40 (1557).

This had us jumping for our Nokia N86 8MP to check out whether the latest update had hit our device. It sure has and shows that the install size has jumped to 12.2MB. As soon as you log into N-gage you'll find that an update page will automatically load asking you to update.

We already had installer 1.20 on our Nokia N86 8MP so it asks to overwrite with installer 1.40 (1557). If this doesn't happen then go to the updater in the Options menu. We'd suggest using Wi-Fi, if your device supports it, as it's a rather long download if you have to make the most of your data tariff.

What's more, if you don't want to install it straight to your phone, then you can visit the website and get the full sis file from there.

As part of the update you'll find there are a couple of noticeable changes. The first is a new welcome screen but the main change is the way it breaks down how you view your games. The overall layout is pretty much the same but you'll now find that any games you've already installed will show up as just that, which makes getting to your games a little easier than previously.

We've noticed that switching between screens and getting around the N-Gage showroom is generally a bit quicker, which means it's easier than ever to get to the games and the action!
