Comes With Music is part of Nokia Music and is an all-you-can-eat music download subscription service. All you need is a Nokia XpressMusic phone (we’re using the Nokia 5310 XpressMusic) and a Comes With Music account and you have access to over six million tracks. We've been using the service to build a music library like no other and have reached the Letter W - see how we've been getting on...
We're getting close to the end of our journey through the alphabet of music on Nokia Music using our Comes With Music account. Recent weeks, namely Letter U and Letter V, weren't great hauls for music, so instead of going for a widespread of bands, we've narrowed our targets and hope to go for quantity with the Letter W.
Things get off to a bad start with the youngest member of the family, as pre-teen girl seems to have run out of artists she likes and can't find any for Letter W. Teenage boy has a bit more luck, plucking for Weird Al Yankovic who seems to have a large number of 'hilarious' pastiche albums to his name. So, we get started with Straight Outta Lynwood, Polka Party, the Food Album, Greatest Hits, Greatest Hits II, The TV Album, In 3-D, Even Worse, and Bad Hair Day all help to pick upt he album count some.
For his second choice, we have White Zombie and while Rob Zombie may have gone off to make movies and sell comics, there are still plenty of albums to be had. Sadly, Comes With Music only has three of them, SuperSexy Swingin' Sounds, Astro Creep, and La Sexercisto (Vol 1), so we bag them and move on.
The first of lady-of-the-house selection doesn't go too well, as WolfMother only have one album to their credit, WolfMother but we tag and bag it and hope for more with her second choice, Weezer. We bang the full array consisting of The Blue Album, The Red Album, The Green Album, Make Believe, Maldroit and even what to some is something of a lost album, Pinkerton.
So far, we're not doing too badly and with Woven Hand, the followup band from David Eugene Edwards to his hugely underrated 16 Horsepower, we bag another three albums in the form of the most recent Ten Stories, as well as Blush Music and Mosaic.
Rounding out my choices we're on safe ground as the White Stripes are a major act that is bound to have a few albums on Comes With Music. We're not disappointed when the full back catalogue shows up, so we add The White Stripes, White Blood Cells, De Stijl, Elephant, Get Behind Me Satan and Icky Thump to the list and start thinking about when we'll actually get the time to listen to all this music.
RANDOM ALBUM: OK, so we've reached the Letter W, so it's time to plumb for the World music category on Nokia Music. This week's Editor's Pick is Shantel, who don't look vert much like the average idea of what a World Music act should look like. It seems Shantel, real name Stefan Hantel, is a German producer and DJ, known for his work with gypsy brass orchestras, DJing and remixing traditional Balkan music with electronic beats. So we download Planet Paprika and prepare to be pleased.
