Nokia has released an update for its desktop web version of Ovi Maps, called ‘Good Things’. The update allows Ovi Maps users to add their own personal Points Of Interest (POI) directly onto their map with the additional option to share it. Could this be the beginning of something big, find out more about ‘Good Things’ and where to get it after the jump...
The Nokia Ovi Maps update, which illustrates Nokia’s growing investment in its Social Location Strategy, allows you to add information, such as reviews and write ups, about places you assign as Good Things. From here you have the option to share your ‘good things’ with others, or simply keep it as a reference tool for yourself.
Unfortunately, the Good Things update is not available for mobile devices yet. However, when you consider the speed with which Nokia’s Social Location Strategy is gaining momentum, following its acquisition of Plazes and more recently Dopplr, we’re pretty confident it won’t be too long before this technology trickles down to the mobile world.
Additionally, each ‘good thing’ you create has a unique URL making it a very easy to share with your friends via Twitter, Facebook, or any of the other social networking sites out there.
You can download the update for your desktop version of Ovi Maps. Once you have restarted your PC a Good Things tab on Maps.Ovi.com, from here you’re free to add as many ‘good things’ as you like.
Cheers to the Symbian Guru for flagging this one up for us!
