Nokia-5730-XpressMusic-02The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic has arrived and we've spent the last couple of days checking out what it can do to enhance our mobile life. We'll be carrying out a full review in the next day or so, but for now we thought it was time to give our first impressions on this stylish QWERTY smartphone. Check out how we're getting on with the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic....

The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic weighs in at 135g and the first thing we noticed was how similar in size and shape it was to the Nokia 5800. Sure, there are differences, the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and lacks a touchscreen but it's clear Nokia has been keen to keep to an established size.

The handset itself comprises a 2.4-inch screen with 240 x 320-pixel resolution and the Homescreen allows you to add your favourite contacts, something we've seen in the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic most recently. There is also a row of six icons that allows you to personalise the screen. You'll find Facebook, Messaging and camera functions already pre-loaded. There is also N-Gage built into the Nokia 5730 XpressMusic, so you can use this handset for all you multimedia needs.

This wouldn't be an XpressMusic phone with dedicated music buttons on the left-hand side of the screen. The audio quality of the phone is solid enough and you'll find a 3.5mm jack on the top of the phone for adding the supplying in-ear headphones.

However, what we think will be the big selling point of this smartphone is the keyboard. The slide-out QWERTY is a great size and as soon as you slide it out, the screen rotates into Landscape mode.  The buttons are a good size but have a very shallow travel to them, so you need to make sure you strike it correctly to register.

Spanning almost the full width of the device, you use your thumbs to type, so you may find that letters at the edges, such as QAZ and PL, are a little trickier to access. Still, we've found it a real pleasure to use, especially when you need to write longer messages.

The Nokia 5730 XpressMusic is shaping up to be a fun smartphone. It takes many of the traits of the Nokia E75 business device but adds a whole host of multimedia features that make this device great for work and pleasure.
