Ovi Store: Best Apps for a Shopping Trip The Nokia Ovi Store is your one-stop shop for apps and utilities. It may be open 24/7 but this is no all-night garage or quiki-mart but a full blown super-store crammed to the virtual roof with all the apps your Nokia smartphone will ever need. This week, we've decided to go on a bit of shopping trip, so we thought we'd best check out how to make the best use of our handset. Discover the best Ovi Store apps for the perfect shopping trip...

Shopping List

So you are heading to the shops - you need a shopping list, right? The aptly named Shopping List stores your list online and makes it updateable from several mobiles - great if you need to split up to cover the sales before closing time. You can add quantities (e.g weights and measures, number of items, etc.) as well as named goods and can send out lists via SMS as a reminder. The app also comes with a home screen widget to make it easy to see at a glance what you need.

Handwriting Calculator

Sure, you could use the regular calculator app to work out what you are spending, but this S60 series 5 touch app is just too cool not to try. Rather than tapping in the amounts you want to add up, just write your working out onto the touch screen and the app will try to figure out what you mean. e.g. just write '2 + 2' and hit the '=' button and you will get '4'. You can do Sine, Tan, Cosine and Square Roots too, although if you need those you must have much more complicated shopping trips than we do.

mAssets

Type:  City Guides/Maps

Price:  £8.00

Size:  0.601 MB

Link:  mAssets

mAssets is a 'personal asset manager' - what this means is an app that lets you log the stuff you buy and not where you got it from  so that - in the event you need to return it - you can just follow the map directions from your phone. You can log info about price, contact details, support & guarantees. If you tend to buy a lot of gadgets and white goods, this could be a worthwhile investment.

I Parked Here

Type:  City Guides/Maps

Price:  £3.00

Size:  0.356 MB

Link: I Parked Here

When the day's shopping is done you need to remember where on earth you parked so you can get home with your bags of stuff. I Parked Here is a simple app that takes the GPS/AGPS coordinates of your car and then guides you back with turn-by-turn directions. It even has a parking meter alarm that will warn you if you need to go and feed some 20ps into the meter.

Before you can download any of these apps you'll need to register your device with Ovi Store, which also entitles you to updates and message alerts from Nokia and is a great way of keeping abreast of what's going on at the Ovi Store.

    I Parked Here

I Parked Here uses Skyhook to find your position in addition to A-GPS. Skyhook uses Wifi triangulation to get your location. This means that in most cities you don’t need to wait for a GPS fix. Skyhook takes seconds.

You have to select an internet access point from the menu in order to activate Skyhook.

    cheers.
