We’re big fans of the Nokia N97, it’s a good looking and responsive device that’s put a wealth of applications and widgets at our fingertips. However, the new upcoming v20 firmware update looks like it will take Nokia’s flagship device - as well as the N97 mini - to a whole new level of usability. Read on after the jump to find out more...
One of the most obvious benefits of the v20 firmware update will be the long awaited implementation of kinetic scrolling into the Nokia N97, which is something Nokia N97 users have been screaming out for since the device launched. The addition of kinetic scrolling will add a more tactile experience to overall navigation by allowing you to flick through long lists, such as your contacts and music files, seamlessly.
In addition to the improved tactility of the device, the v20 firmware update will add more memory and a ream of new widgets, such as CNN, ESPN, and a Facebook widget that comes with Lifecasting with Ovi.

The update also sees the Ovi Store becoming fully integrated into the N97’s home screen for quick access to applications and games. Additionally, Nokia have improved the music function by increasing the amount of album artwork available - so no more albums minus the artwork in your phone, which is certainly good news for the more obsessive-compulsive users out there!
Finally, there has also been a welcome update to Nokia Maps, which sees the addition of Lonely Planet, a tourist guide designed for people who are travelling on their own, as well as some general improvements in its usability and functionality. All in all, this looks like its going to be a fantastic update that will bring a whole new level of usability to the Nokia N97 - needless to say, we’re waiting with baited breath!
