Rumours towards the back-end of last week began circulating about the Nokia N920, a possible successor to the as-yet-unreleased Maemo 5 powered Nokia N900. We reported on the possibility of the Nokia N920, which came with a “leaked” picture of it and some speculative specs - it was said to be running Maemo 6, be “keyboardless” and have a 4.3-inch screen.
Unfortunately, the Nokia N920 turned about to be nothing more than a scurrilous fake, albeit a rather exciting, and generally plausible one. You can find out how this cunning Nokia N920 was put together over at nokiaport.de.
While the Nokia N920 has been ousted as a fake, it’s not beyond belief that Nokia is already working on a successor to the Nokia N900 - after all the development stages of these high-end devices can take years of planning. However, for the time being, it looks like we’ll have to wait for any realistic news on that front.
Obviously, the news of a successor to the heavily anticipated Nokia N900 culminated in what can only be termed a massive game of online Chinese Whispers, which was only made worse by the fact that everybody, including us, is so excited about the imminent release of the Nokia N900.
While there is still no official release date for the Nokia N900, it is beginning to look increasingly likely that it will be pushed back until November, which is a little unfortunate as earlier reports suggested an October release date. Nevertheless, nothing is set in stone on that front, and Nokia could surprise us with an early release date...
Additionally, we should be getting our hands on a Nokia N900 this week for an in depth review complete with pictures, so watch this space for more news on that front.
