Nokia 5800 Firmware update v30.0.011.217 shows up! The Nokia 5800 firmware update v30.0.011.217 finally showed up on our handset over the weekend. It arrived OTA (Over The Air) and took a couple of minutes to download and install. This is a minor update and lacks the kinetic scrolling we were hoping for. Find out what the Nokia 5800 v30.0.011.217 has to offer after the jump...

We first brought you news of the update back in July. Yes, we know there have been a couple of updates reported since the Nokia 5800 v30.0.011.217 firmware update went public but ours has only just made it, so there is hope for every one else.

How to Update Your Nokia 5800 Firmware

We were hoping this update would finally bring the much touted kinetic scrolling to the Nokia 5800 but sadly that did not materialise. Nor did we get the updated interface – we were kind of hoping to get the same Contacts bar as on the Nokia 5530, which allows you to scroll across 20 contacts. Then there is the Media Bar that allows for cherry-picked apps to be launched from the homescreem.

We're still looking very much at the standard four contacts and layout. While this works fine, we're keen to move with the times and get hold of the latest Symbian S60 homescreen.

So what exactly has changed? Well, on the surface there seems to be little change with this update. That said, the handset does feel a little more stable and moving around the different apps feels a little quicker. While there are no major changes with firmware update v30.0.011.217, it's worth having and if it can turn up on our device then there is hope for everyone else out there.

Have you got a hold of the Nokia 5800 v30.0.011.217 firmware update yet, or even the more recent v31.2.008? What changes have you found? Let us know in the Comments below as we'd love to know if we're missing something!

Updated my 5800 to V30 and now it constantly keeps rebooting when switched on so got to send it to Nokia for repair now, i did try my local repair center first but they said i’m carrying to much static electricity on me for my phone to work and they won’t be able to fix it because it’s me and not the phone thats the problem.

Interestingly, I have just found 31.0.101.C02.01 on NSU for my 5800 having been on 31.0.008 for a while now. Nothing was available OTA.

I have an Orange UK 5800 – and as usual they have created their own software for the phone. Is there a way to get around the Orange software and go for the straight up Nokia software?
