Nokia 6788: First TD-SCDMA phone launched

Nokia 6788 set for ChinaNokia today announced the launch of the Nokia 6788, the first Nokia device designed solely for TD-SCDMA - China’s domestic 3G standard. The Nokia 6788 is the result of a close collaboration between Nokia and the world’s largest mobile phone operator, China Mobile. Read on after the jump for more details.

The Nokia 6788 has been designed specifically for use within China’s TD-SCDMA and will offer faster internet speeds and download times. The device itself features a five megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, a 2.8 icnh QVGA display, and a Symbian S60 OS platform.

"Nokia sees TD-SCDMA as being central to the successful evolution of 3G in China, and so is fully committed to this 3G standard. With a wide range of integrated China Mobile applications, the Nokia 6788 marks a new level of collaboration with China Mobile and offers enriched experiences to China's 3G users. Nokia plans to introduce more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future, further boosting the development of this 3G standard in China," said Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo

Because the Nokia 6788 has been designed specifically for the Chinese market place, it will feature traditional Chinese patterns on the back of slide and the battery cover. According to reports, the Nokia 6788 is thought to landing in December 2009.

"We are excited to see the launch of Nokia 6788," said Mr. Lu Xiangdong, Vice President of China Mobile Communications Corporation.

He added: "With extensive experience in the China market, Nokia will provide Chinese consumers with TD-SCDMA solutions that are perfectly catered to their needs. Such cooperation between the world's largest operator and the world's leading mobile phone manufacturer will provide an important boost to the development of TD-SCDMA in China."

    What is the reason for these big Western cellphone manufacturing companies to find it difficult to compete with features of Chinese Phones? I have a very nice stable phone from Sakhumzantsi and wish I could get a 3G phone with similar features.
